It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla (may Allah have mercy on him) that they were with Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked for water, and a Magian went to give him water in a silver cup. When he placed the cup in his (may Allah be pleased with him) hand, he threw the cup away, then said: Had I not forbidden him once or twice (Abu Nu'aym says: it is as if he were saying), I would not have done this; but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Do not wear silk or fine silk, do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, and do not eat from plates of gold and silver. These vessels are for them (the disbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
