It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks from a vessel of gold or silver, or from a vessel in which there is an admixture of either, is only filling his belly with the fire of Hell."
(b) What is well known from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding a vessel patched with silver is that this narration is mawquf (stopping) at him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a cup plated with silver was brought to him so that he might drink from it, but he refused to drink from it. I asked him (about it), and he said: Ever since Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver", he has not drunk from a vessel fitted with silver.

It is narrated from Amrah (may Allah have mercy on her): We were with the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), and we kept pressing her until she (may Allah be pleased with her) gave us permission regarding jewellery, but she did not give us permission regarding a silver-plated vessel.

Hadith Takhrij«حسن لغيره۔ ابن أبي شيبة في حصنفه 25158»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the cup of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cracked, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) joined the broken place with a silver wire. Asim says: I saw that cup and also drank from it. My father says: I saw that cup and drank from it.

Abu Hamzah (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned it like the aforementioned hadith, except that he used the word "inkasara" (it broke) in place of "insada'a" (it cracked). Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded the hadith in this way in his Sahih, and this gives the impression that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself put a silver wire on the broken place.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the cup of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cracked, so I put a wire on the broken place, that is, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) put a wire on the broken place.
(b) The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) says: It is like this in the hadith. I do not know who said this, Musa bin Harun or a narrator above him.

Asim al-Ahwal says: I saw the cup of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). It had broken, and he had joined it with a silver wire. Asim says: That cup was very fine and was made of pure tamarisk wood. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I gave the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) water to drink in this cup many times.
(b) Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) says: There was an iron ring on this cup. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to put a ring of gold or silver in its place, but Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Do not change what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made; leave it as it is.
