Ibn Jurayj (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) told me that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: "Whoever circumambulates the House, whether a pilgrim or not, leaves ihram." I said to Ata (may Allah have mercy on him): "On what basis did he say that?" He said: "In the light of the saying of Allah Almighty: 'Then their place of sacrifice is at the Ancient House' [Al-Hajj: 33]." I said: "But that is after Arafah." He said: "Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: before Arafah and after it. He took this as evidence from the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) command to his Companions to leave ihram during the Farewell Hajj."
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We have narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), what indicates that their cancelling the Hajj into an Umrah was specific to the riding party of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that others, when they performed Hajj or Hajj qiran and then performed the arrival tawaf, did not leave ihram before the Day of Sacrifice. Then they left ihram through the acts by which one in ihram leaves it.
