Wabarah said: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) when a man came and said: "May I circumambulate the House before coming to Arafat?" He said: "Yes." The man said: "Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Do not circumambulate the House until you come to the place of standing." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj and circumambulated the House before coming to the place of standing. So is the way of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) more deserving to be followed, or the saying of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), if you are truthful?"
