Bayhaqi 21034 — There is no harm in listening to camel-driving songs

Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) towards Khaybar. We travelled through a night, and a man said to Sayyiduna Amir bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him): Will you not let us hear some of your verses? Amir was a poet. He got down (from his mount) and began reciting these verses while driving the mounts:
"O Allah, had You not guided us, we would not have given charity or prayed.
Send down tranquillity upon us when trial comes upon us.
And change our distress."
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who is this driver of the mounts?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: O Messenger of Allah, this is Amir bin al-Akwa'. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on him."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) to stir the people on, so he recited rajaz verses.
