أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الشَّيْباني، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى الذُّهْلي، حَدَّثَنَا مسدَّد، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الواحد بن زياد، حدثني عثمان بن حَكِيم، حدثتني جدَّتي الرَّبابُ قالت: سمعتُ سهلَ بن حُنَيف يقول: مَرَرْنا بِسَيْل، فدخلتُ فاغتسلتُ فيه، فخرجتُ محمومًا، فنُمِيَ ذلك إلى رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: "مُرُوا أبا ثابتٍ يَتعوَّذ" قال: فقلت: يا سيدي، والرُّقَى صالحةٌ؟ فقال: "لا رُقَى إِلَّا فِي نَفْسٍ أو حُمَة أو لَدْغة" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We passed by a stream of flood water, so I entered it and bathed in it, and when I came out I had a fever. This reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Thabit (Sahl bin Hunayf) to recite ruqyah (seek refuge)." I said: O my master, is ruqyah beneficial? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no ruqyah except for the evil eye, a venomous effect, or the sting of a (venomous creature)" (that is, it is most effective in these).

حَدَّثَنَا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا بِشْر بن موسى، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن سعيد الأصبهاني، أخبرنا شَريك، عن العبَّاس بن ذَرِيح، عن عامر، عن أنس رَفَعَه؛ قال: "لا رُقْية إِلَّا مَن عَينٍ أو حُمَةٍ أو دمٍ، يَرْقَأُ (2) " (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), as a marfu' report, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ruqyah is only for the evil eye, a venomous effect (sting), or blood (from a wound) that does not stop" (that is, it is most beneficial in these).
