لَا يَكُونُ أَحَدٌ مُتَّقِيًا حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ بَأْسٌ

أخبرنا عبد الله بن الحسين القاضي بمَرْو، حدثنا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم، حدثنا أبو عَقِيل الثّقفي عبد الله بن عقَيل [عن عبد الله بن يزيد] (1) عن رَبيعة بن يزيد وعطيّة بن قيس، عن عطيّة بن سعد - وكان من أصحابِ رسول الله ﷺ أنه قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إِنَّ الرَّجل لا يكونُ من المتَّقِين حتى يدعَ ما لا بأس به حَذَرًا لِمَا به بأسٌ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Atiyyah bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person cannot be among the God-fearing (the muttaqin) until he leaves something in which there is apparently no harm, out of fear of falling into something sinful."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

أخبرنا الحسن بن حَلِيم المروزي، أخبرنا أبو المُوجِّه، أخبرنا عَبْدان، أخبرنا عبد الله، أخبرني يحيى بن أيوب، عن بكر بن عمرو، عن عبد الرحمن بن زياد، عن أبي عبد الرحمن الحُبُلي، عن عبد الله بن عمرو، عن النبيِّ ﷺ قال: "تخفةُ المؤمنِ الموت" (3).
