It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a man is travelling through a barren, dangerous wilderness and he stops to rest in the shade of a tree, having with him his mount carrying his provisions and food, then he wakes from sleep and sees that his mount has gone; he climbs a high place (searching for it) but sees nothing, then climbs another high place and there too sees nothing; then he suddenly turns and sees his mount standing before him, dragging its reins. However intense his joy at finding that mount, Allah Almighty is far more joyful at the repentance of His servant when he turns back to Him."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think of the joy of a man whose mount runs away, dragging its reins, in a desolate land where there is neither food nor water, while all his food and drink are loaded upon it; he searches for it until he is exhausted, then the mount passes by the stump of a tree, its reins get caught there, and he finds it tied there?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would be extremely joyful." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, by Allah, Allah Almighty is more joyful at the repentance of His servant than that man at finding his mount."
