It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of my hand, and I went with him (peace and blessings be upon him) to his son Ibrahim, who was at that time breathing his last. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took him into his lap until his soul departed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) laid him down and began to weep. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you weeping when you have forbidden weeping? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have not forbidden weeping; rather, I have forbidden two foolish and sinful voices: one at a time of blessing, the voice of amusement, play and the flutes of Satan; and the other at a time of calamity, the voice of striking faces and tearing garments. These (tears) are mercy, and whoever does not show mercy is not shown mercy. Were it not a true promise and a certain word that those of us who go first will be joined by those who come after, we would have grieved over you even more than this. O Ibrahim! We are indeed grieved at parting from you. The eye weeps and the heart grieves, but with our tongues we will say only what pleases the Lord."

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri that he said: It reached me that Sayyidah Mariyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the umm walad (mother of a child) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), passed away in Madinah in the year 17 AH.
