It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: On the day of al-Hudaybiyah I gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) unto death twice. He relates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the people gathered (in one place) and said to me: "Go and see what the matter is." I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking the pledge of allegiance from the people unto death, so I too gave the pledge. Then I returned and informed Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he came and gave the pledge, and then I gave the pledge again after he had given it.
This is among the greatest virtues of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and the two Shaykhs did not record it, while (the narrator) Abdullah bin Umar al-Umari is mentioned only on account of weakness in his memory.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Every one of us who reached that period of the world, the world inclined towards him or he inclined towards the world, except Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) (who remained indifferent to the glitter of the world).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

It is narrated from Nafi' that he said: Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) entered the Ka'bah, and I heard him making this plea while in prostration: "(O Allah!) You know well that nothing has prevented me from competing with Quraysh for the gains of this world except fear of You."
