Mention of Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him)

Khalifah bin Khayyat states that the name of Abu Waqid al-Laythi was al-Harith bin Awf bin Asid bin Jabir bin Abd Manah bin Shij' bin Amir bin Layth.

Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) said that Abu Waqid was al-Harith bin Malik.

Sa'id bin Kathir bin Ufayr states that the name of Abu Waqid al-Laythi was al-Harith bin Awf bin al-Harith bin Asid bin Jabir bin Uwayrah bin Abd Manah bin Shij' bin Amir. He was a Companion who accepted Islam early. On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the banner of Banu Layth, Damrah and Banu Sa'd bin Bakr was with him. He lived for a long time after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then he went to Makkah, stayed there for a year and died there.

Nafi' bin Sarjis states: We visited Abu Waqid al-Laythi during the illness in which he died. When he died, we buried him in Makkah at Fakhkh, in the graveyard of the Muhajirun. It is called the graveyard of the Muhajirun because those who had emigrated to Madinah and then came to Makkah for Hajj or to reside there, and died there, used to be buried in it. Among them are Abu Waqid al-Laythi, Abdullah bin Umar and others. Abu Waqid al-Laythi died in the year 68 AH at the age of 85.

Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so close that my knee was touching his (peace and blessings be upon him) knees. Then someone came and whispered something into his (peace and blessings be upon him) ear, at which the colour of the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed and the lines of his forehead swelled with anger. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the messenger of Amir bin al-Tufayl, threatening me and those who take refuge with me, whereas Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has sufficed me against him through the descendants of Isma'il, the two sons of Qaylah (the Ansar)."
