Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) states: We were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and we heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Before the Hour there will be trials like pieces of the dark night, in which a man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning. People will sell their share (of the Hereafter) in them for a small gain of this world." Al-Hasan al-Basri said: By Allah, we have seen such people: forms without intellect and bodies without understanding. They are like moths of the fire and flies of greed; they strive morning and evening for two dirhams, and one of them sells his religion for the price of a goat.
