Ali bin Muhammad al-Mada'ini and others state that when al-Dahhak bin Qays was killed at Marj Rahit, in the middle of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 64 AH during the caliphate of Marwan bin al-Hakam, al-Nu'man bin Bashir wanted to flee from Hims, where he was the governor. He had opposed (the Umayyads) and called for allegiance to Ibn al-Zubayr, so the people of Hims searched for him, killed him and cut off his head.
That al-Nu'man bin Bashir heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is established by the narrations in the two Sahihs.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The part between the brackets had dropped out of our manuscripts, and we took it from the narrations that will come later at numbers (6454) and (6500). Important point: This chain is a well-known series, and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi mentioned in "Tarikh Baghdad" 2/ 252, in the biography of Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Jariri, that al-Jariri narrated the books of Abu al-Hasan 'Ali bin Muhammad al-Mada'ini from Ahmad bin al-Harith al-Kharraz.
