Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) states that Sayyiduna Hind bin Harithah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Hudaybiyah, and he died in Madinah during the caliphate of the Commander of the Believers Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). According to one view, they were eight brothers, all of whom were honoured with the companionship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and took part in the Pledge of Ridwan. Their names are: Asma', Hind, Khidash, Dhu'ayb, Humran, Fadalah, Salamah and Malik, the sons of Harithah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man from the tribe of Aslam on the day of Ashura with this message: "Whoever has eaten and drunk should complete his fast (for the rest of the day, that is, not eat anything more now), and whoever has not yet eaten anything should fast for the remainder of the day."

Yahya bin Hind narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Hind bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him (to make an announcement) on the day of Ashura and said: "Order your people to fast this day." He said: O Messenger of Allah! If I find that they have already eaten, (what is the ruling)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then let them complete the rest of their day (like one who is fasting)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
