Mention of Sulayman bin Surad bin al-Jawn al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him)

Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) states that the kunyah of Sayyiduna Sulayman bin Surad bin al-Jawn al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Mutarrif. He accepted Islam and was honoured with the companionship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). His name was formerly Yasar, but when he accepted Islam, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Sulayman. He was very aged and a man of honour among his people. When the Muslims settled in Kufah, he also settled there. He took part in the Battle of Siffin alongside the Commander of the Believers Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he set out with an army of four thousand to avenge the blood of Sayyiduna al-Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sulayman bin Surad was martyred in that battle, and his head was carried to Marwan bin al-Hakam. At the time of his martyrdom he was 93 years old.

Imam Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari states that al-Mukhtar bin Abi Ubayd killed Sulayman bin Surad at a time when Sulayman had already killed Ubaydullah bin Ziyad.

Ali bin al-Madini states that Sayyiduna Sulayman bin Surad (may Allah be pleased with him) killed Ubaydullah bin Ziyad.
