Mention of the disagreement about the year of his death

It is narrated from Damrah bin Rabi'ah that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 58 AH, and there is also a view of 59 AH; at that time he was 78 years old.

It is narrated from Hisham bin Urwah that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 57 AH.

It is narrated from Hisham bin Urwah that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 75 AH. (Note: Historically, the reports of 57 to 59 AH are considered more reliable.)

Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) states that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 59 AH, at the end of the rule of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and at the time of his death he was 78 years old. Al-Walid bin Utbah led his funeral prayer, as he was then the governor of Madinah, while Marwan had at that time been removed from the governorship of Madinah. Thabit bin Qays narrated from Thabit bin Mishhal that al-Walid wrote to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) informing him of the death of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he wrote back: "See which heirs he has left behind, and pay his heirs ten thousand dirhams; treat them well as neighbours and deal kindly with them, for he was among those who supported Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and was with him in the house (during the siege)."
