Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6280

It is narrated from Hisham bin Urwah that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 75 AH. (Note: Historically, the reports of 57 to 59 AH are considered more reliable.)

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The Indian printed editions have the year 55 AH, which is wrong; the correction is from manuscripts (Z), (M) and (B), except that in (M) a different hand added a "wa" to "sanah". Manuscript (S) gives his age as 75 years, but the correct reading is that of (Z) and (B).
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir (67/ 388) narrated it via Abd al-Jabbar bin al-Ala'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He stated explicitly that the date is transposed here: the narrator meant to say "fifty-seven" (57) but said "seventy-five" (75).
