It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that one night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him, and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Musa was reciting the Qur'an. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and began listening to his recitation, then moved on. In the morning, when Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Musa! Last night I passed by you while you were reciting, and we stopped to listen to your recitation." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Prophet of Allah! Had I known of your presence, I would have recited (the Qur'an) for you with even more embellishment and in a more beautiful voice."

It is narrated from Abu Burdah that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked me: "Do you know what my father (Umar) said to your father (Abu Musa)?" I said: No. He said: My father asked your father: "Would it please you that our accepting Islam with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), our emigration, our jihad and all our deeds remained secure for us, and that from every deed we did after that we would escape in such a way that we received neither reward nor sin (that is, came out even)?" Your father said to my father: "No, by Allah! After the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) we waged jihad, prayed, fasted and did much good, and we hope (from Allah) for its reward." Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: At this my father said to your father: "By the One in Whose hand my soul is! My wish is that those early deeds remain secure for me, and that I escape from everything after that exactly even (so that no reckoning remains)." Abu Burdah says: I said (to Ibn Umar): "Indeed, your father was better than my father."
