It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that one night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him, and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Musa was reciting the Qur'an. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and began listening to his recitation, then moved on. In the morning, when Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Musa! Last night I passed by you while you were reciting, and we stopped to listen to your recitation." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Prophet of Allah! Had I known of your presence, I would have recited (the Qur'an) for you with even more embellishment and in a more beautiful voice."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: This is a "sahih hadith"; although this particular chain is weak because of the weakness of Khalid bin Nafi' al-Ash'ari, he is corroborated.
Important point: Abu Burdah refers to the son of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim (793/ 236) and Ibn Hibban (7197) narrated it through the route of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Umawi. The wording of Ibn Hibban is that Abu Musa said: "O Messenger of Allah! Had I known that you were listening, I would have beautified my voice (my recitation) for you thoroughly". The narration of Muslim has the brief statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If only you had seen me while I was listening to your recitation last night! You have been given one of the mizmars (melodious voices) of the family of Dawud".
Reference / Source: His (peace and blessings be upon him) statement "You have been given one of the mizmars of the family of Dawud" was narrated briefly in this way by Imam al-Bukhari (5048) and al-Tirmidhi (3855) through the route of Burayd bin Abd Allah, as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet).
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi declared it a "hasan sahih hadith".
