It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Salamah bin Waqsh (may Allah be pleased with him) that he and Jubayrah bin Mahmud attended a feast. Salamah was in a state of ablution. They ate, and then when they came out, Salamah performed ablution again. Jubayrah asked him: "Were you not in a state of ablution?" He replied: "Certainly, but I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): we came out of a similar feast to which we had been invited, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of ablution. He (peace and blessings be upon him) ate and then performed ablution, so I said: O Messenger of Allah! Were you not in a state of ablution? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Yes, but new circumstances keep occurring, and this (food) is among the things that have occurred.'" Layth bin Sa'd says that Zayd bin Jubayrah reported from his father Jubayrah bin Mahmud that Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) was the last of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to die, except for Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who remained alive after him.
