Ibn Umar said: He is Qudamah bin Maz'un bin Habib al-Jumahi. He accepted Islam before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the house of al-Arqam and before he began (openly) calling (to Islam) there. He is the brother of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him) made the second emigration to Abyssinia. Safiyyah bint al-Khattab, the sister of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), was married to him. And Sayyiduna Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him) took part alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battles of Badr, Uhud, al-Khandaq and all the other battles.

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Sa'd that before the Battle of Badr the polytheists seized Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) and his father, and they wanted to kill them. Then they took from them a firm covenant and pledge by Allah that they would not help (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) against them. So the two of them swore the oath to them, and they released them. Then the two of them came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), related the whole incident and said: We have sworn an oath to them; if you wish, we will fight alongside you (despite this covenant). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We will fulfil (the covenant) (nafi), and we will seek Allah's help against them."
