مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى شَهِيدٍ فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ

حدثنا بكر بن محمد الصَّيرَفي بمَرْو، حدثنا عبد الصمد بن الفضل، حدثنا مَكِّي بن إبراهيم، حدثنا الصَّلْتُ بن دينار، عن أبي نَضْرةَ، عن جابر بن عبد الله، قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "مَن أرادَ أن يَنظُرَ إلى شهيدٍ يمشي على وجهِ الأرضِ، فليَنظُرْ إلى طلحةَ بن عُبيد الله" (1). تَفرَّد به الصّلتُ بن دِينار، وليس من شرطِ هذا الكتاب.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes to look at a martyr walking on the face of the earth, let him look at Talhah bin Ubaydullah."

حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا إبراهيم بن عبد الله السَّعْدي، أخبرنا محمد بن عُبيد الطَّنَافِسيّ، حدثنا أبو مالك الأشْجَعي، عن أبي حَبِيبة مولى طَلْحة، قال: دخلتُ على عليٍّ مع عِمران (2) بن طَلْحة بعدَما فَرَغَ من أصحابِ الجَمَل، قال: فرحَّب به وأدْناهُ، قال: إني لأرجُو أن يَجعلَني الله وأباكَ من الذين قال الله ﷿: ﴿وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِمْ مِنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَى سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ﴾ [الحجر: 47]، فقال: يا ابن أخي، كيف فُلانةُ، كيف فُلانةُ؟ قال: وسألَه عن أُمّهات أولادِ أبيه، قال: ثم قال: لم نَقْبِضُ أرْضِيَّكُم هذه السِّنينَ (1) إلَّا مخافةَ أن يَنتَهِبَها الناسُ، يا فلانُ، انطَلِقُ معه إلى ابن قَرَظَة (2) مُرْهُ فليُعْطِه غَلَّتَه هذه السِّنين، ويَدفَعْ إليه أرضَه، فقال رجلانِ جالسانِ ناحيةً، أحدُهما الحارِثُ الأعوَرُ: اللهُ أعدَلُ من ذلك أن نَقتُلَهم ويكونوا إخوانَنا في الجنة؟ قال: قُوما أبعدَ أرضِ الله وأسحَقَها، فمَن هو إذا لم أكُن أنا وطلحةُ؟ يا ابنَ أخي، إذا كانت لك حاجةٌ فأْتِنا (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Abu Habibah, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): After the Battle of the Camel was over, I went with Sayyiduna Imran bin Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) welcomed him and seated him near himself, then said: I hope that Allah will place me and your father among those about whom Allah Almighty has said: "And We shall remove whatever rancour is in their breasts; brothers, on thrones facing one another" [Surah al-Hijr: 47]. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O my nephew! How is so-and-so, and how is so-and-so (among the women)? He also asked about his father's umm walads. Then he said: We held these lands of yours in our possession during these years only out of fear that people would plunder them. O so-and-so! Go with him to Ibn Qarazah and command him to hand over to him all the produce of these lands for these years, and the lands as well. At this, two men who were sitting in a corner, one of whom was al-Harith al-A'war, said: Allah is far more just than that. Shall we kill them and they be our brothers in Paradise? Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said angrily: Get up, both of you, and go to the farthest and most ruinous place in Allah's earth! If I and Talhah are not (the ones meant by this verse), then who is? (Then he said to Imran bin Talhah:) O my nephew! Whenever you have any need, come to us.
