Virtues of Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi, Kannaz bin al-Husayn al-Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish woman invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and some of his Companions to a meal of roasted mutton. When they sat down to eat, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took a morsel and put it down (taking it out of his mouth). Then he said to them: "Stop, this sheep is certainly poisoned." Then he said to the Jewish woman: "Woe to you! Why did you poison me?" She said: "I wanted to know: if you truly are the Prophet of Allah, it would not harm you, and if you are not a prophet, I would relieve the people of you." Bishr bin al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) had eaten from that meat, and because of it he died, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had that woman executed (in retaliation).
(Mention of the virtues of Abu Marthad Kannaz bin al-Husayn al-Ghanawi, may Allah be pleased with him) It is also said that he is Kannaz bin Hisn bin Yarbu'. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between him and Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him). He took part in the Battles of Badr, Uhud and al-Khandaq, and he is the father of Marthad bin Abi Marthad. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made him the commander of the expedition that was sent to al-Raji', and he was martyred there.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
