Book of Knowing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
كَانَتْ بَيْعَةُ عُثْمَانَ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ فِي عَشَرَةِ الْمُحَرَّمِ .
The pledge of allegiance to Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the year 24 on the tenth of Muharram

حدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن إسحاق الحَرْبي، حَدَّثَنَا مُصعب بن عبد الله، قال: وكانت بيعة عثمان ﵁ يوم الاثنين غرّةُ المحرَّم سنة أربعٍ وعشرين.

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah; he said: The pledge of allegiance to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took place on Monday, the first of Muharram al-Haram, in the year twenty-four (24) AH.
حَدَّثَنَا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا بِشر بن موسى، حَدَّثَنَا أبو نُعيم الفضل بن دُكَين، حَدَّثَنَا الأعمش، عن عبد الله بن سِنان (1) قال: لمَّا جاءت بَيعةُ عثمان، قال عبدُ الله: ما أَلَونا عن أعلاها، ذا فُوقٍ (2).

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Sinan that when the time came for the pledge of allegiance to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said (expressing his satisfaction with his selection): "We have spared no effort in choosing the best and most elevated man from among us."
حَدَّثَنَا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن أيوب، أخبرنا شَيْبان بن فَرُّوخَ، حَدَّثَنَا طلحة بن زيد، عن عَبِيدة (1) بن حسان، عن عطاء الكَيْخاراني، عن جابر بن عبد الله، قال: بينما نحن في بيت ابن حشفة في نفر من المهاجرين فيهم أبو بكر وعمر وعثمان وعلي وطلحة والزبير وعبد الرحمن بن عوف وسعد بن أبي وقّاص، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "لِينهَضْ كلُّ رجلٍ منكم إلى كُفْوِهِ"، فنهض النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إلى عثمانَ فاعتنقَه، وقال: "أنت وليِّي في الدنيا والآخرة" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were in the house of Ibn Hashafah with a group of the Muhajirun, among whom were Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talhah, al-Zubayr, Abd al-Rahman bin Awf and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with them). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let each man among you rise and go to his equal and peer (kuf')." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), embraced him and said: "You are my wali (close friend) in this world and the Hereafter."

حَدَّثَنَا أبو النضر الفقيه بالطابَرَان، حَدَّثَنَا علي بن عبد العزيز، حَدَّثَنَا عُبيد الله بن عُمر بن مَيسرة، حَدَّثَنَا القاسم بن الحَكَم بن أوس الأنصاري، حدثني أبو عُبادة الزُّرَقي، حدثني زيد بن أسلم، عن أبيه، قال: شهدتُ عثمان يوم حُصِرَ في موضع الجنائز، فقال: أنشُدُك الله يا طلحةُ، أتذكر يومَ كنتُ أنا وأنت مع رسول الله ﷺ في مكانِ كذا وكذا، وليس معه من أصحابه غيري وغيرُك، فقال لك: "يا طلحةُ، إنه ليس من نبيٍّ إلَّا وله رَفيقٌ من أمّتِه معه في الجنة، وإنَّ عثمانَ رفيقي ومعي في الجنة"؟ فقال طلحة: اللهمَّ نعم، قال: ثم انصرف طلحةُ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Zayd bin Aslam narrates from his father; he said: I was present on the day when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was besieged at the place of the funeral prayers. Then he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Talhah! I ask you by Allah, do you remember the day when you and I were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at such-and-such a place, and none of his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions was there except me and you, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to you: 'O Talhah! Every prophet has a companion from his Ummah who will be with him in Paradise, and indeed Uthman is my companion and with me in Paradise'?" Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "By Allah, yes (I remember)." Then Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) went back from there.
