It is narrated from Abdullah bin Sinan that when the time came for the pledge of allegiance to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said (expressing his satisfaction with his selection): "We have spared no effort in choosing the best and most elevated man from among us."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this name has been distorted into "Yasar", whereas the correct name is "Abd Allah bin Sinan al-Asadi al-Kufi", who is a trustworthy Successor. See his biography in Ibn Hajar's "Ta'jil al-Manfa'ah" (551).

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Al-A'mash is Sulayman bin Mihran.

Note / Clarification: His words "ma alawna" mean: we fell short in nothing / we were not remiss.
Note / Clarification: His words "'an a'laha" (from its highest part): al-Tabari said: This means the highest people of the Ummah; the pronoun "ha" refers to the Ummah, and he means its most exalted and best people.
Note / Clarification: As for his words "dha fuq" (having a notch), he means an arrow whose "fuq" (the part of the arrow where the bowstring is placed) has been set right; the "fuq" of an arrow is the place in which the bowstring runs.
Important point: Then al-Tabari said: We think that what Abd Allah (bin Mas'ud) meant by this statement (and Allah knows best) is that we did not fall short, nor spare any effort, in choosing for the Ummah the one who was best and highest in rank and had the greatest share and portion in Islam, goodness, precedence and virtue.
