Umar seeking permission from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with them) to be buried in her room

It is narrated from Abu Salamah, Yahya bin Abd al-Rahman bin Hatib and others that when Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was wounded, he said to his son Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Go to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), convey my greetings of peace to her and say: Umar says that if it causes you no harm and you do not feel it straitens your space, then I wish to be buried beside my two companions (the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq); but if it harms you or you feel it straitens you, then by my life, in this Baqi' are buried Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Mothers of the Believers who are better than Umar." When the messenger reached her, she said: "Indeed, it will cause me no harm and no straitening." Then he said: "Then bury me with the two of them."

It is narrated from al-Qasim bin Muhammad; he said: I looked at the graves in the blessed chamber of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that is, the graves of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and I found red pebbles (hasba' hamra') lying on them.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was sixty-three (63) years old.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "Indeed, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was a strong fortress which Islam would enter but would not leave. Then, when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, the fortress was breached; now Islam leaves it and does not enter it. Whenever the righteous are mentioned, then (say) 'fa-hayyahala' (welcome and greetings) to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was musajja (a deceased person covered with a cloth). Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "May Allah send down His mercies upon you." Then he said: "There is no one among the people with whose record of deeds I would more love to meet Allah than with the record of deeds of this covered man (Umar (may Allah be pleased with him))."
Imam al-Hakim said: Those reports of the Shura which are authentically narrated have their source connected with the reports of the Saqifah of Banu Sa'idah after the death of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).
