Mention of the Prophet of Allah Dawud (peace be upon him), the recipient of the Zabur

It is narrated from Wahb bin Munabbih (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "The lineage of the Prophet of Allah Dawud (peace be upon him) is: Dawud bin Isha bin Uwbid bin Ba'az bin Salmun bin Nahshun bin Nadab bin Ram bin Hasrun bin Faras bin Yahudha bin Ya'qub bin Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Khalil (peace be upon them). He was a man of short stature, with blue eyes, little hair, a pure heart, and he was a faqih (one of deep understanding)."

It is narrated from Zayd bin Aslam (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "Have you not seen those who left their homes in their thousands, fearing death" up to: "And Allah is All-Knowing of the wrongdoers" [Surah al-Baqarah: 243 - 246], that he said: "Allah Almighty revealed to their prophet that among the children of so-and-so there is a man through whom Allah Almighty will have Jalut killed, and his sign is that you will place this horn on his head and water will gush forth from it. So he (the prophet) came to that man and said: Allah Almighty has revealed to me that among your children there is a man through whom Allah Almighty will have Jalut killed. He said: Yes, O Prophet of Allah! Then he presented before him twelve men like pillars (strong and tall), among whom was one man more handsome than all of them. So the prophet began to bring them before the horn, but he saw no sign. At this the prophet said: Do you have any children besides these? The man said: Yes, O Prophet of Allah! I have a son of short stature; I felt ashamed to show him to people, so I have sent him among the goats (to graze them). The prophet asked: Where is he? He said: He is in such and such a valley. So the prophet went out to him (and when he saw him) said: Indeed this is the one. Then he placed the horn on his head and it gushed forth (with water)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created Adam (peace be upon him), He passed His hand over his back, and from his back came out all the souls that Allah was to create among his offspring until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah Almighty placed between the eyes of every human being among them a gleam of light. Then they were presented to Adam (peace be upon him), and he said: O my Lord! Who are these? Allah Almighty said: These are your offspring. Adam (peace be upon him) saw a man among them the gleam between whose eyes pleased him greatly. He said: O my Lord! Who is this? Allah Almighty said: This is a man from the last nations among your offspring, who is called Dawud. Adam (peace be upon him) asked: O Lord! How long have You set his lifespan? Allah Almighty said: Sixty years. Adam (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! Take forty years from my lifespan and add them to his. So when the (appointed) lifespan of Adam (peace be upon him) was complete, the Angel of Death came to him. Adam (peace be upon him) said: Do forty years of my life not remain? The angel replied: Did you not give those forty years to your son Dawud? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So Adam (peace be upon him) denied, and his offspring began to deny; he forgot, and his offspring began to forget; and he erred, and his offspring began to err."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
