حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل البَجَلي قال: سمعت محمد بن كُنَاسة يقول: سمعت سفيانَ الثَّوري وسُئِلَ عن قول الله ﷿: ﴿هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ فَمِنْكُمْ كَافِرٌ وَمِنْكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ﴾ [التغابن: 2]، فقال: حدثنا الأعمش، عن أبي سفيان، عن جابر قال: قال النبي ﷺ: "يُبعَثُ كلُّ عبدٍ على ما ماتَ عليه" (1). قد أخرج مسلمٌ (2) حديث الأعمش، ولم يخرجه بهذه السِّياقة.

Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, "It is He who created you, and among you is a disbeliever and among you is a believer" [Surah al-Taghabun: 2], and he narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every servant will be raised (on the Day of Resurrection) in the state in which he died."
Imam Muslim recorded this hadith of al-A'mash, but he did not record it with this wording.

أخبرنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق (3) بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا عمرو بن محمد، حدثنا إسرائيل، عن سِمَاك، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: نزلت هذه الآية: ﴿إِنَّ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ وَأَوْلَادِكُمْ عَدُوًّا لَكُمْ فَاحْذَرُوهُمْ﴾ [التغابن: 14] في قومٍ من أهل مكَّة أسلموا، فأَبى أزواجُهم وأولادُهم أن يَدَعُوهم، فيَأْتُوا (4) المدينةَ، فلما قَدِمُوا على رسول الله ﷺ رَأَوْهم قد فَقِهوا، فهَمُّوا أن يُعاقِبوهم (5)، فأنزَلَ الله ﷿: ﴿وَإِنْ تَعْفُوا وَتَصْفَحُوا وَتَغْفِرُوا﴾ [التغابن: 14] (6).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that this verse, "Indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them" [Al-Taghabun: 14], was revealed concerning some people of Makkah who had accepted Islam, but their wives and children had prevented them from coming (emigrating) to Madinah. Then when they (somehow) reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw that the others had acquired a deep understanding of the religion, they resolved to punish their families (who had stood in their way). Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And if you pardon, overlook and forgive (then Allah too is Forgiving)." [Al-Taghabun: 14]
