حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل البَجَلي قال: سمعت محمد بن كُنَاسة يقول: سمعت سفيانَ الثَّوري وسُئِلَ عن قول الله ﷿: ﴿هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ فَمِنْكُمْ كَافِرٌ وَمِنْكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ﴾ [التغابن: 2]، فقال: حدثنا الأعمش، عن أبي سفيان، عن جابر قال: قال النبي ﷺ: "يُبعَثُ كلُّ عبدٍ على ما ماتَ عليه" (1). قد أخرج مسلمٌ (2) حديث الأعمش، ولم يخرجه بهذه السِّياقة.

Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, "It is He who created you, and among you is a disbeliever and among you is a believer" [Surah al-Taghabun: 2], and he narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every servant will be raised (on the Day of Resurrection) in the state in which he died."
Imam Muslim recorded this hadith of al-A'mash, but he did not record it with this wording.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل أبي سفيان: وهو طلحة بن نافع.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is strong (qawi).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This strength is on account of Abu Sufyan, who is "Talhah bin Nafi'".
وقد سلف برقم (3729) من طريق أبي عامر العقدي عن سفيان، وذكر فيه هناك الآية (21) من سورة الجاثية.
Reference / Source: This narration has already passed at number (3729) via Abu Amir al-Aqadi, who narrates it from Sufyan, and there it mentions verse (21) of Surat al-Jathiyah.
