أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الصَّفّار، حَدَّثَنَا أحمد بن مِهران، حَدَّثَنَا عُبيد الله بن موسى، أخبرنا إسرائيل، عن خُصَيف، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبَّاس، قولَه ﷿: ﴿تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِن فَوْقِهِنَّ﴾ [الشورى: 5]، قال: مِن الثِّقَل (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "The heavens almost break apart from above them" [Surah al-Shura: 5], that he said: (This splitting of the heavens is) because of the weight (of the majesty of Allah).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

أخبرنا أبو زكريا العنبري، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عبد السلام، حَدَّثَنَا إسحاق، أخبرنا عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث، حَدَّثَنَا همَّام، عن قتادة، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: كان بين آدمَ ونوح عَشَرَةُ قُرون، كلُّهم على شريعة من الحقِّ، فلما اختَلَفوا بَعَثَ الله النبيِّين والمرسَلين وأَنزل كتابه، فكانوا أُمَّةً واحدةً (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Between Sayyiduna Adam and Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon them both) there was a span of ten generations, and all of them were upon a law of truth. Then, when differences arose among them, Allah Almighty sent the prophets and messengers and revealed His Book; before that they were a single nation.
