It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "The heavens almost break apart from above them" [Surah al-Shura: 5], that he said: (This splitting of the heavens is) because of the weight (of the majesty of Allah).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) in its chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This chain is "da'if" because of "Khusayf" (Ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Jazari). His memory was poor, and there is disagreement over him in its chain and its text. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu al-Shaykh in "al-'Azamah" (236) via al-Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri, from Ubayd Allah bin Musa. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Except that he made the narrator from Ibn Abbas "Mujahid", not "Ikrimah". Reference / Source: He also recorded it (235) via Sharik (Ibn Abd Allah al-Nakha'i), from Khusayf, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: "those above them, meaning the Lord (the Mighty and Majestic)". Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Sharik's memory is also poor. Reference / Source: It was recorded, like the narration of Sharik, by al-Tabari (25/ 7) with the chain of the Awfis, from Atiyyah al-Awfi, from Ibn Abbas, who said: "that is, from the weight and grandeur of the Most Merciful". This chain is "da'if". Note / Clarification: The meaning of the verse, as Ibn Jarir al-Tabari said: "The heavens almost split apart above the earths because of the grandeur and majesty of the Most Merciful".
