It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: When Allah Almighty revealed these verses: "And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best" [Surah al-An'am: 152] and "Indeed, those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly are only consuming fire into their bellies, and they will be burned in a blazing Fire" [Surah an-Nisa: 10], everyone who had an orphan with him separated his own food and drink from the orphan's food and drink, to the extent that if something was left over from his (the orphan's) food, it would be kept aside for him until either he ate it or it spoiled. This situation became very hard for them, so they mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And they ask you about orphans. Say: Setting right their affairs is best, and if you mix your affairs with theirs, they are your brothers" [Surah al-Baqarah: 220]. So (after that) they mixed their food and drink with their food and drink.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will pledge allegiance to me on these verses?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Say: Come, I will recite to you what your Lord has forbidden to you" [Surah al-An'am: 151] until he completed the three verses. (Then he said:) "Whoever fulfils (these conditions), his reward is with Allah. Whoever falls short in any of them (violates them) and Allah seizes him for it in this world, it will be a punishment (an expiation) for him. And whoever is given respite until the Hereafter, his affair is with Allah: if He wills He will punish him, and if He wills He will forgive him."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. The two Shaykhs agreed only upon the narration of al-Zuhri from Abu Idris whose wording is: 'Baya'uni 'ala an la tushriku billahi shay'an' (Pledge allegiance to me that you will not associate anything with Allah). Sufyan bin Husayn narrated both of these hadiths from al-Zuhri, so when they are reconciled, neither of them should be attributed to error. And Allah knows best.

(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a line for us (on the ground), then drew (other) lines to its right and its left, then said: "This is the path of Allah, and these (lines on the right and left) are various paths, on each of which sits a devil calling to it." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And this is My straight path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths, for they will separate you from His path" [Surah al-An'am: 153].
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. A supporting narration for it, with the very same wording, is transmitted by al-Sha'bi from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) through a route that is not relied upon.
