Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him), that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, which lands (or places) are the worst? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know." Then when Jibril (peace be upon him) came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Jibril, which places are the worst?" He said: I do not know until I ask my Lord. So Jibril (peace be upon him) departed and remained away for as long as Allah willed, then he returned and said: O Muhammad, you asked me which places are the worst, and I said that I did not know. Then I asked my Lord: Which places are the worst? And Allah Almighty said: "Their markets."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. Qays bin al-Rabi' and Amr bin Thabit bin Abi al-Miqdam have also narrated it from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, and it has an authentic corroborating report.

(2). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, which places are the best? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know." He asked: Which places are the worst? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know." Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask your Lord." Jibril (peace be upon him) said: We do not ask Him about anything (of our own accord). Then such a trembling came over Jibril (peace be upon him) that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was stunned at seeing his state. Then when Jibril (peace be upon him) ascended, Allah Almighty said: Muhammad asked you which places are the best, and you said: I do not know; and he asked which places are the worst, and you said: I do not know? He said: Yes. Then Allah said: Tell him that the best places are the mosques and the worst places are the markets.
