Qatadah narrates from Abu Qilabah, who narrates from Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the sun went into eclipse, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led two rak'ahs of prayer until the eclipse cleared. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sun and the moon do not go into eclipse because of anyone's death; rather, they are two of His creations, and Allah brings about in His creation whatever He wills. Moreover, when Allah Almighty manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him. So whenever either of them goes into eclipse, pray until it becomes bright again or Allah Almighty brings about some other matter."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with these words.
