(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Aqil al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with the delegation of Banu Thaqif. We travelled along one of the roads of Madinah until we made our camels kneel at (his) door. At that time there was no one among the people more hateful to us than the man to whom we were going in (that is, at first we had intense hatred for him). But when we entered, greeted him and gave our pledge of allegiance, then by the time we came out there was no one among the people more beloved to us than the man from whose presence we had come out. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you not ask your Lord for a kingdom like the kingdom of Sulayman (peace be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said: "Perhaps your companion (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) has with Allah something better than the kingdom of Sulayman (peace be upon him). Allah gave every prophet one supplication (which was to be accepted). Some of them asked for worldly things with it and were given them, and some prayed against their people and they were destroyed. Allah gave me a supplication too, and I have kept it hidden (in reserve) with my Lord as intercession for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection."
Muslim used Ali bin Hashim as evidence, and Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Aqil al-Thaqafi is a Companion whom our imams have used as evidence in their Musnad collections. As for Abd al-Jabbar bin al-Abbas, he is one of those narrators whose hadiths are collected, and his Musnad narrations are counted among the Kufans.
(2). It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was shown what my Ummah will face after me, and their shedding of one another's blood, and this had already been decreed by Allah just as it was in the nations before. So I asked Allah to grant me the right of intercession for them on the Day of Resurrection, and Allah granted it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. The hidden defect ('illah) in it, in their view, was that Abu al-Yaman narrated it in two ways: once he said "Shu'ayb from al-Zuhri from Anas", and another time he said "Shu'ayb from Ibn Abi Husayn from Anas". We have already stated that there is nothing objectionable in an imam having a hadith from two teachers, narrating it sometimes from one and sometimes from the other. And Abu al-Yaman himself clarified: This hadith is in fact al-Zuhri's hadith, and what I narrated from Ibn Abi Husayn was my mistake, caused by a leaf that I turned over. Imam al-Hakim said: This clarification is perfectly clear and acceptable, because Ibrahim bin Hani is trustworthy (thiqah) and reliable.
