Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8847

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I see what you do not see and I hear what you do not hear. The sky is creaking (under the weight of the angels), and it has every right to creak, for there is not a space in it the size of four fingers except that an angel is prostrating in it before Allah. By Allah! If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much, you would not take pleasure in your women on your beds, but you would go out to the heights and open plains, crying out humbly before Allah." (Hearing this, Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) By Allah! I wish that I were a tree that would be cut down.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have 'sajid' (in the form of the nominative), whereas the word written in the text ('sajidan') is taken from manuscripts (K) and (M), and that is the correct form.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word was corrupted into 'Farhat'.

Grading: This hadith is 'hasan li-ghayrihi' (sound through supporting evidence).
Reference / Source: It has already appeared under no. (3927) by way of Ahmad bin Hazim al-Ghifari from 'Ubayd Allah bin Musa. And it will come again with the chain given here under no. (8941).
