Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8764

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were in the gathering of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), discussing which of the two mosques is more virtuous: the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or the mosque of Bayt al-Maqdis? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One prayer in this mosque of mine is more virtuous than four prayers there, and what an excellent place of prayer it is. Soon a time will come when a man will have a piece of land the size of his bowstring from which he can see Bayt al-Maqdis, and it will be better for him than the whole world," or he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will be better than the world and all that is in it."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grammatical note: In our manuscripts and "al-Talkhis" it is "an la yakuna" (with the addition of the negating "la"), whereas it is better to omit it, unless it is considered a redundant particle, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted ﴿لِئَلَّا يَعْلَمَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ﴾ (so that the People of the Book may know) [al-Hadid: 29]; the well-known view among grammarians and exegetes is that the "la" here is redundant.

Textual and linguistic verification: In the manuscripts this word has been distorted into "sabt farasihi" or "bast farasihi" or the like; in the printed edition it was recorded as "shatan farasihi", and "shatan" means a rope. The reading we have established (in the text) is taken from the takhrij sources by the route of Ibn Tahman, and, Allah willing, it is correct. "Siyat al-qaws" is the end of the bow around which the string (watar) is twisted, and a bow has two ends (siyatan).

Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of the author's shaykh and his shaykh; they have been corroborated, and the narrators above them are thiqah.
Technical note: Al-Hajjaj bin al-Hajjaj is "al-Bahili", and Abu al-Khalil's name is Salih bin Abi Maryam.
