Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8765

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw (in a dream) as if the pillar of the Book of Allah was pulled out from beneath my pillow, so I followed it with my gaze, and it was a radiant light that was taken towards al-Sham. Behold! When trials occur, faith will be in al-Sham."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih (in terms of its text), but this chain is weak because of the weakness of Ahmad bin 'Isa al-Lakhmi.
Technical note: His shaykh is taken into account in corroborating chains and supporting reports, and he has been corroborated, while all the narrators above them are thiqah.
References: Ya'qub bin Sufyan narrated it in "al-Ma'rifah wa al-Tarikh" (2/300-301 and 523), al-Harith bin Abi Usamah in his "Musnad" (Bughyat al-Bahith: 1041), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (14561) and "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (308-310, 2196, 2197), Abu Nu'aym in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (5/252), al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (6/448), and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (1/102-103, 103, 104, 105), by strong routes from Sa'id bin 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Tanukhi with this same chain.
Technical note (defect): 'Uqbah bin 'Alqamah contradicted this (as found) in Tammam al-Razi's "al-Fawa'id" (1278), al-Raba'i's "Fada'il al-Sham" (11), al-Bayhaqi's "al-Dala'il" (6/448) and Ibn 'Asakir (1/102): he narrated it from Sa'id bin 'Abd al-'Aziz, from 'Atiyyah bin Qays, from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr. Although 'Atiyyah bin Qays is thiqah, this narration of 'Uqbah is shadh (not preserved).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It was narrated by Ibn 'Abd al-Hakam in "Futuh Misr" (p. 448), Ya'qub bin Sufyan (2/290-291) and Ibn 'Asakir (1/105-106) by the route of Mudrik bin 'Abd Allah; by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (14545) (and by his route Ibn 'Asakir 1/106) by the route of Abu Idris al-Khawlani; and by al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (2689) (and by his route Ibn 'Asakir 1/110) by the route of Abu Qilabah. All three of them (Mudrik, Abu Idris, Abu Qilabah) narrate it from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr bin al-'As.
Technical note: There is some criticism in all these chains, and the best of them is the hadith of Mudrik bin 'Abd Allah, despite the jahalah (being unknown) found in him. On this topic there is a report from 'Amr bin al-'As in Musnad Ahmad (29/17775).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: There is also a report from Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad (36/21733) and others.
Linguistic note: "'Amud al-kitab" (the pillar of the Book) means its basis and its text (foundation).
