! It is narrated from Nu'aym bin Dijajah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when Sayyiduna Uqbah Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him (in an affectionate tone): "O Farrukh! Is it you who said this? Or do you give this fatwa to the people?" He replied: "I only inform them about the end, and the end is bad." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Tell us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning the hundred years." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A hundred years will not pass while there remains on the earth any eye that blinks (any living human)." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have made a mistake, and you also made a mistake in your first fatwa. He (peace and blessings be upon him) meant only those who were alive (on the face of the earth) on that day. And is it not after the hundred years that prosperity and relief from hardship are to come?!"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(4734). Note / Clarification: See our comment regarding this attribution on the previous hadith no. (4734).
Technical note / Distortion (tahrif): In the manuscripts the words are "dahan ya Farrukh" (with the addition of the word "dahan"). The meaning of this word has not become clear to us, and it does not occur in anyone other than the author (al-Hakim). The most likely view is that this word is a distortion of "wa-nahada" (and he stood up), as found in al-Tahawi's "Mushkil al-Athar" (372). He narrated it by the route of Fahd bin Sulayman, from al-Nufayli, with this same chain, and in it is: "So 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, and he stood up: O Farrukh!"
Grading: Because of Nu'aym bin Dajajah, its chain is "hasan". Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (2/714, 718) and his son 'Abd Allah (1187) narrated it by the route of Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir, from al-Minhal bin 'Amr, with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A shahid for the marfu' part is the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), in al-Bukhari (116) and Muslim (2537), whose wording is: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the 'Isha' prayer in the last days of his life; when he gave the salam, he stood up and said: "Do you see this night of yours? At the end of a hundred years from it, none of those who are (alive) today on the face of the earth will remain." This hadith is also in Musnad Ahmad (9/5617); see the rest of its supporting reports there. Note / Clarification: Regarding the words "ya Farrukh", al-Sindi said in his marginal notes on Musnad Ahmad: It is said that it is the name of the father (ancestor) of the non-Arabs, so it is as if 'Ali attributed this man to being a non-Arab of little understanding.
