It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Wahb al-Khawlani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The hundred years will not come while anyone (of those present now) remains on the back of the earth." The narrator says: I related this to Hujayrah. Then Abd al-Rahman bin Hujayrah went to Abd al-Aziz bin Marwan, and Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) was also brought, while he had become very old. Abd al-Aziz asked him about this hadith, and he narrated it. Abd al-Aziz said: Perhaps he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant that of those who were with him (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time, none would remain at the completion of a hundred years? Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say it.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. And the clear proof that what the Commander of the Believers Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), and what Abd al-Aziz bin Marwan said to Sufyan bin Wahb al-Khawlani (may Allah be pleased with him), was correct is the following hadith:

Technical note: In the printed edition it is "Ibn Hujayrah" (with the addition of the word Ibn), whereas this addition is not in our manuscripts. However, both are correct, because the narration of Harmalah bin Yahya from Ibn Wahb in Abu Nu'aym's "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (3503) has made clear that Sa'id narrated this hadith to "Hujayrah", and at that time Hujayrah's son "'Abd al-Rahman" was also present with him. (So both father and son are possible.)
Grading: Because of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Shurayh, its chain is "hasan". Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn 'Abd al-Hakam in "Futuh Misr" (pp. 185, 523), Ya'qub bin Sufyan in "al-Ma'rifah wa al-Tarikh" (2/511), Ibn Qani' in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (1/315), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (6405, 6406), Abu al-Fadl al-Zuhri in his "Hadith" (236), Ibn Mandah in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (pp. 770-771), and likewise Abu Nu'aym (3503), by various routes from 'Abd Allah bin Wahb with this same chain. Some of them did not mention the story of Sufyan being carried to 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Marwan.
