It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "The people will be travelling by night towards Jam' (Muzdalifah), and the Beast of the Earth (Dabbat al-Ard, the creature that will come out of the earth) will be advancing towards them. By morning it will have encircled them all between its head and its tail. There will be no believer except that it wipes him (and marks him), and no hypocrite or disbeliever except that it brands him on the nose. Up to that time the door of repentance will be open. Then the smoke will appear, which will afflict the believer with something like a cold, while it will enter the ear openings of the disbeliever and the hypocrite until they become (swollen) like roasted meat. Even then repentance will be accepted, until the sun rises from the west."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak because of the weakness of "Ibn al-Baylamani". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi in "al-Talkhis" declared it defective for this reason, and also on account of "al-Walid bin Jumay'" (al-Walid bin 'Abdullah bin Jumay'); but al-Walid bin Jumay' is stronger and of better standing than him (Ibn al-Baylamani). Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" (20/15) from Abu al-Sa'ib (Salm bin Junadah al-Kufi), from Muhammad bin Fudayl, with this same chain. Something similar was narrated by Yahya bin Sallam in "al-Tafsir" (2/567), Nu'aym bin Hammad in "al-Fitan" (1865), Ibn Abi Shaybah in "al-Musannaf" (15/180) and Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Tafsir" (9/2923), through two routes from al-Walid bin Jumay', with this same chain. Note / Clarification: "تخطمه" means: it will put a mark on his nose. Note / Clarification: "الحنيذ" means: roasted (meat).
