Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8677

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! The Hour will not be established until you fight the Turks, whose eyes are small, faces red and noses flat, as though their faces were layered leather shields."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not narrate (in their collections) the words "red faces".

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name has been corrupted into "al-Bakri", although with the author it occurs correctly as "al-Baladi" in more than ten places. It is an ascription to "Balad al-Hatab", a town near Mosul.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" on account of "'Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-A'raj refers to "'Abd al-Rahman bin Hurmuz".
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (120) from Abu Yazid Ahmad bin 'Abd al-Rahim al-Hawti, from 'Ali bin 'Ayyash, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (16/10861), al-Bukhari (3587), Muslim (2912/64) and Ibn Majah (4097) by way of Abu al-Zinad 'Abdullah bin Dhakwan, and by al-Bukhari (2928) by way of Salih bin Kaysan, both of them from al-A'raj.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In both of al-Bukhari's routes the wording is "حمر الوجوه" (red-faced), while the narration of Muslim and Ibn Majah is abridged. Al-Hakim's including it as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
Reference / Source: It was narrated in abridged form by Ahmad (12/7263 and 13/7676), al-Bukhari (2929), Muslim (2912/62), Abu Dawud (4304), Ibn Majah (4096), al-Tirmidhi (2215) and Ibn Hibban (6744, 6746) by way of Sa'id bin al-Musayyab; by Ahmad (13/7987 and 16/10150), al-Bukhari (3591) and Muslim (2912/66) by way of Qays bin Abi Hazim; and by Muslim (2912/65), Abu Dawud (4303), al-Nasa'i (4371) and Ibn Hibban (6745) by way of Abu Salih Dhakwan al-Samman. All three of them (Sa'id, Qays, Abu Salih) narrate it from Abu Hurayrah.
Details of the narration: This narration will come shortly with the author under number (8679) by way of Hammam bin Munabbih from Abu Hurayrah.
