It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will follow the ways of those before you so completely, span by span and cubit by cubit, that if one of them had entered a lizard's hole, you too would enter it; and even if one of them had had intercourse with his wife on the road, you too would do the same."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this wording.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: On the basis of corroborations and supporting reports, its chain is "hasan". Technical note: This is because of Abu Uways (Abd Allah bin Abd Allah bin Uways al-Asbahi), about whom there is some criticism, but when he is corroborated or a supporting report is found, his hadith is acceptable (salih al-hadith), and this narration is one of those. Thawr bin Zayd al-Kinani is al-Dili, the nephew (brother's son) of Musa bin Maysarah al-Dili. Takhrij and correction: It was narrated by Muhammad bin Nasr al-Marwazi in "al-Sunnah" (43) via Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli from Isma'il bin Aban al-Warraq, and in it the wording is: "If one of them were to have intercourse with his mother..." and this wording is correct. Takhrij: It was also narrated by al-Bazzar (3285 - Kashf al-Astar) via Isma'il bin Subayh, and by al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna wa al-Asma'" (1272) via Isma'il bin Abi Uways; both of them narrated it from Abu Uways. Addition: Isma'il bin Abi Uways, narrating from his father, added: "I know of the two of them (Thawr and Musa) only that they narrated to me exactly the same from Abu al-Ghayth Salim, the client of Ibn Muti', from Abu Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Analysis: We say: We could not find this route of Abu al-Ghayth; however, the hadith of Abu Hurayrah with a similar meaning - without the piece "intercourse with his mother..." - has passed via Abu Salamah from Abu Hurayrah under number (107). That hadith is "sahih", and it is a "strong supporting report" for this hadith of Ibn Abbas. Supporting reports: The whole of this hadith is supported by the hadith of Abd Allah bin Amr, which has passed with the author (al-Hakim) at (449); its chain is fit for consideration (i'tibar), so the two hadiths strengthen each other.
