حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى، حدثنا أبو الوليد، حدثنا همام، عن قتادة، عن ابن بُريدة، عن سليمان (2) بن الربيع، عن عمر بن الخطاب قال: قال رسول الله: "لا تزال طائفة من أمتي ظاهرين على الحق حتى تقوم الساعة" (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه. وقد رواه ثَوْبانُ وعِمران بن حصين عن رسول الله ﷺ. أما حديث ثوبان:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group of my Ummah will always remain dominant upon the truth until the Hour is established."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. It has also been narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) by Sayyiduna Thawban and Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both). As for the hadith of Sayyiduna Thawban, then:
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. (2) تحرّف في (ك) و (م) و (ب) إلى: سلمان، والمثبت من "تلخيص الذهبي"، وهو الصواب الموافق لما في مصادر ترجمته.
Note / Clarification: In (K), (M) and (B) this name has been corrupted into "Salman"; what has been established (in the text) is taken from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis", and it is correct, agreeing with the sources for this narrator's biography.
(3) صحيح لغيره كسابقه، وهذا إسناد ليِّن، سليمان بن الربيع لم يرو عنه غير ابن بريدة " - وهو عبد الله وذكره ابن حبان في "ثقاته"، ولما روى هذا الخبر البخاري في "تاريخه الكبير" 4/ 12 عن عمرو بن مرزوق عن همام قال: ولا يعرف سماع قتادة من ابن بريدة ولا ابن بريدة من سليمان.
Grading: Like the previous one, this hadith is sahih li-ghayrihi, but this chain is lax (layyin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): No one narrated from Sulayman bin al-Rabi' except Ibn Buraydah (who is Abd Allah), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". When al-Bukhari narrated this report in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 4/ 12 via Amr bin Marzuq from Hammam, he said: Neither is Qatadah's hearing from Ibn Buraydah known, nor Ibn Buraydah's from Sulayman.
وقد اضطرب قتادة في إسناده كما سيأتي بيانه. أبو الوليد: هو هشام بن عبد الملك الطيالسي، وهمّام: هو ابن يحيى العَوْذي.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Qatadah was inconsistent in its chain, as will be explained.
Note / Clarification: Abu al-Walid is "Hisham bin Abd al-Malik al-Tayalisi", and Hammam is "Ibn Yahya al-Awdhi".
وأخرجه البخاري في "تاريخه" 4/ 12، وابن الأعرابي في "معجمه" (1307)، والقضاعي في "مسند الشهاب" (913) من طريق عمرو بن مرزوق، عن همام، بهذا الإسناد. ورواه عن همام أيضًا أبو داود الطيالسي كما في "مسنده" (38)، ومن طريق الطيالسي أخرجه الدارمي (2477)، والطبري في مسند عمر من "تهذيب الآثار" 2/ 816، وأبو يعلى في "مسنده" كما في "المطالب العالية" (4352/ 5)، والضياء المقدسي في "المختارة" 1/ (127) و (128).
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari in his "Tarikh" 4/ 12, by Ibn al-A'rabi in his "Mu'jam" (1307), and by al-Quda'i in "Musnad al-Shihab" (913) via Amr bin Marzuq, from Hammam, with this same chain. It was also narrated from Hammam by Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, as in his "Musnad" (38), and via al-Tayalisi it was narrated by al-Darimi (2477), by al-Tabari in the Musnad of Umar in "Tahdhib al-Athar" 2/ 816, by Abu Ya'la in his "Musnad" (as in "al-Matalib al-Aliyah" (4352/ 5)), and by al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" 1/ (127) and (128).
وخولف همامٌ عن قتادة، فرواه هشام الدستوائي عن قتادة عن أبي الأسود الديلي عن عمر، وسيأتي عند المصنف برقم (4/ 86) و (8866)، وقتادة لم يسمع من أبي الأسود.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammam was contradicted in narrating from Qatadah: Hisham al-Dastuwa'i narrated it from Qatadah, from Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali, from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and it will come with the author (al-Hakim) under number (4/ 86) and (8866); yet Qatadah did not hear from Abu al-Aswad.
ورواه سعيد بن أبي عروبة واثنان آخران عن قتادة عن عبد الله بن أبي الأسود عن عمر، كما سيأتي بيانه هناك، وعبد الله بن أبي الأسود لا يعرف.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Sa'id bin Abi Arubah and two others narrated it from Qatadah, from Abd Allah bin Abi al-Aswad, from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), as will be explained there, and this Abd Allah bin Abi al-Aswad is unknown.
