Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8517

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nafi' bin Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "You will fight the Arabian Peninsula and Allah will grant it conquest; then you will fight the Romans and Allah will grant you conquest over them too; then you will fight the Persians and Allah will grant victory over them too; then you will fight the Dajjal and Allah will overpower (conquer) him too."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Uthman bin 'Umar (Ibn Faris) heard from al-Mas'udi ('Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Utbah) before the latter's (al-Mas'udi's) memory deteriorated (ikhtilat).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (31/ 18972) narrated it from Yazid bin Harun, from al-Mas'udi, with this same chain. Details of the narration: There (in Ahmad) "the fighting with the Romans" comes after "the fighting with Persia", and this is the "preserved" (mahfuz) version. More than one narrator narrated it thus from 'Abd al-Malik bin 'Umayr, as has been explained with the author (al-Hakim) at numbers (5795) and (5934); among them is Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid, whose narration is in Muslim (2900).
Note / Clarification: So al-Hakim's adding it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
