Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is sahih and the narrators of this isnad are thiqah (trustworthy), but there is disagreement in its isnad over Muhammad bin Wasi', and likewise over Abu Salih (Dhakwan al-Samman), as al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (1966). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim, in his book "Ma'rifat Ulum al-Hadith" (p. 18), declared it defective because of a break between Muhammad bin Wasi' and Abu Salih, while here in "al-Mustadrak" he declared it sahih according to the condition of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim)!
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (13/ 7942) and al-Nasa'i (7244) via several routes from Yazid bin Harun, with this same isnad.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (13/ 7701) via Ma'mar, from Muhammad bin Wasi', with this same isnad.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (16/ 10496) from Yunus bin Muhammad, from Hazm bin Abi Hazm, from Muhammad bin Wasi', from some of his companions, from Abu Salih.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Nasa'i (7246) via Hammad bin Zayd, who narrates from Muhammad bin Wasi' that he said: A man narrated to me from Abu Salih (and then he mentioned the full isnad).
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad (16/ 10676) and al-Nasa'i (7245) via Rawh bin Ubadah, from Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Wasi', from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, from Abu Salih.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Nasa'i (7247) and Ibn Hibban (534) via Hammad bin Salamah, from Muhammad bin Wasi', from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih. In Ibn Hibban's narration "Abu Sawrah" is also joined together with Muhammad bin Wasi'.
Reference / Source: It was recorded at length and in abridged form by Imam Ahmad (12/ 7427), Muslim (2699), Ibn Majah (225, 2544), Abu Dawud (4946), al-Tirmidhi (1425, 2945) and al-Nasa'i (7248, 7249), via several routes from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In Muslim, in the narration of Abu Usamah, al-A'mash explicitly states that he heard from Abu Salih. In al-Nasa'i's second narration it is "from Abu Hurayrah", and sometimes he said "from Abu Sa'id". Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is hasan. Note / Clarification: We say: al-Hakim's including it in the Mustadrak (i.e. among what is not in al-Bukhari and Muslim) is an oversight on his part, because this hadith is in Sahih Muslim.
Details of the narration: The majority of narrators from al-A'mash were contradicted by Asbat bin Muhammad al-Qurashi, as found in Abu Dawud (4946), al-Tirmidhi (after 1425 and 1930) and al-Nasa'i (7250): he narrated it from al-A'mash, who said (in the passive form): "It was narrated to me from Abu Salih".
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: It seems that this (the narration of Asbat) is more authentic than the first hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-A'mash has been corroborated in it: Suhayl bin Abi Salih narrated it from his father with only the story of "concealing (faults)", and that is the next hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there are narrations from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in al-Bukhari (2442) and Muslim (2580).
