كما حدَّثَناه بكر بن محمد بن حَمْدان المروّزي، حدثنا عبد الصمد بن الفضل، حدثنا حفص بن عمر العَدَني، حدثنا الحَكَم بن أبان، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عباس: أنَّ ماعزًا جاء إلى رجل من المسلمين، فقال: إني أصبتُ فاحشةً، فما تأمرُني؟ فقال له الرجلُ: اذهَبْ إلى رسولِ الله ﷺ ليستغفِرَ لك. فلما أتى ماعزٌ رسول الله ﷺ فأخبره كَرِهَ رسول الله ﷺ كلامَه - أو قال: قولَه - ثم قال رسولُ الله ﷺ لمن كان معه: "أَبصاحبِكم مَسٌّ؟ " قال ابن عباس: فنظرتُ إلى القوم لأُشيرَ عليهم، فلم يَلتفِتْ إليَّ منهم أحدٌ، فقال له رسول الله ﷺ: "لعلَّكَ قبَّلتَها؟ " قال: لا، قال النبي ﷺ: فمَسِسْتها؟ قال: لا، قال: "ففَعَلتَ بها؟ " ولم يَكْنِ (1)، قال: 4/ 362 نعم، قال: "فارجُمُوه"، قال: فبَيْنا هو يُرجَمُ إِذ رَمَاه الرجلُ الذي جاءَه ماعزٌ يستشيرُه، رَمَاه بِعَظْمٍ فخَرَّ ماعزٌ، فالتفَتَ إليه، فقال له ماعزٌ: قاتَلَكَ اللهُ أَوْرَيتَني (2) ثم أنتَ الآنَ تَرجُمُني (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Ma'iz came to a man from the Muslims and said: I have committed an indecent act; what do you advise me? The man said: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he may pray for forgiveness for you. When Ma'iz came and informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked what he said. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the people who were with him: "Does this companion of yours have some mental disorder (madness)?" Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I was looking at the people so that I might signal to them (to keep silent), but none of them paid any attention to me. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ma'iz: "Perhaps you only kissed her?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you touch her?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired: "Did you do that (act) with her?" and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not use an allusion in it (but asked explicitly). He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stone him." The narrator said: While he was being stoned, the very man to whom Ma'iz had gone for advice struck him with a bone. Ma'iz fell, turned towards him and said: "May Allah destroy you! It was you who exposed me (before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)), and now it is you who are stoning me."

(1) في النسخ الخطية: يكني، بإثبات الياء والمثبت على الجادة من "التلخيص" للذهبي.
Note / Clarification: In the handwritten manuscripts this word is "yakni" (with the ya' retained), while the text recorded here is in its grammatically correct form, as in al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis".
(2) في (ز): أورتني، وفي (م): أرسي، غير منقوطة، وفي (ك): أورتنني، والمثبت من (ب)، وهو الصواب إن شاء الله، ففي "لسان العرب" (وري): استوريتُ فلانًا رأيًا: سألته أن يستخرج لى رأيًا.
Note / Manuscripts: In manuscript (Z) the word is "awratni", in manuscript (M) "arsi" (without dots), and in manuscript (K) "awratanni". The text recorded here is taken from manuscript (B), and, if Allah wills, it is the correct one; for in "Lisan al-Arab" (root: w-r-y) it says: "istawraytu fulanan ra'yan" means: I asked so-and-so to bring out an opinion for me (i.e., I sought his counsel).
(3) إسناده ضعيف جدًّا بهذا السياق، حفص بن عمر العدني متفق على ضعفه، وبه أعلّه الذهبي في "التلخيص". عبد الصمد بن الفضل: هو ابن موسى البلخي.
Grading: With this wording its chain is very weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is agreement that the narrator "Hafs bin Umar al-Adani" is weak, and for this reason Imam al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis". Abd al-Samad bin al-Fadl is "Abd al-Samad bin Musa al-Balkhi".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): We have not found this hadith transmitted through this route (chain) by anyone other than the author (al-Hakim).
