Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8257

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever guards what is between his two jaws (the tongue) and what is between his two legs (the private parts) has entered Paradise."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), and the name of this narrator Abu Waqid is Salih bin Muhammad bin Za'idah, while the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; the hadith of Muhammad bin Ajlan is a supporting witness (shahid) for it.

Hadith Takhrij
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Correction: The "wa" (and) (in the chain) is an addition taken from al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman", and this is correct, because Ishaq and Ibn Thawban both narrate from Abu Hurayrah.

Grading: Sahih li-ghayrihi.
Grading of the chain: This chain is weak on account of Abu Waqid, who is "Salih bin Muhammad bin Za'idah al-Laythi". (Note: the remark about the added "wa" is repeated here.)
Identification of the narrator: "Wuhayb" is "Ibn Khalid bin Ajlan".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (5023) via Muhammad bin Ali al-Warraq, from Mu'alla bin Asad, from Wuhayb bin Khalid, from Abu Waqid, from Ishaq the mawla of Za'idah and Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Thawban, from Abu Hurayrah.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-Dunya narrated it in "al-Samt" (688) via Ahmad bin Ishaq al-Hadrami, from Wuhayb bin Khalid, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi, (who said:) Ishaq the mawla of Za'idah narrated to me from Abu Hurayrah.
Note: The author (al-Hakim) will cite it in the next narration via another route from Abu Hurayrah.
Note: And he will cite a similar narration from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) at numbers (8262, 8263), and from the hadith of Sahl bin Sa'd at number (8264).
Note: And see what passed at number (8117).
