It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), and he used to narrate very few hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): I heard him say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is hoped that Allah Almighty will forgive every sin except that of a man who dies in a state of disbelief, or a man who kills a believer intentionally."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(645). Note: The text between the square brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts; we have established it correctly from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi" and "Fawa'id Tammam", for he narrated it via Bakkar bin Qutaybah (no. 645).
Grading: Sahih bima ba'dahu (sahih due to the following narration). Grading of the chain: This chain is "hasan" on account of Abu Awn, who is al-Ansari al-Shami. A group narrated from him, al-Ijli declared him reliable, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". (The narrator) Safwan bin Isa is "saduq" (truthful), there is no harm in him. (The narrator) Thawr bin Yazid is "al-Rahabi", and Abu Idris al-Khawlani is "A'idh Allah bin Abd Allah". Reference / Source: Ahmad (28/16907) and al-Nasa'i (3432) narrated it via Safwan bin Isa, with this same chain.
