Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8219

Sayyiduna Bashir bin Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Zayd narrates from his grandfather Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he gave a garden in charity, so his parents came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! This was our only means of livelihood, and we have nothing besides it. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) called Abdullah and said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has accepted your charity and has returned it to your parents." Bashir said: Then (after the parents' death) we received it as inheritance.
Although this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), in my view it is not established that Bashir bin Muhammad al-Ansari heard from his grandfather Abdullah bin Zayd. The two Shaykhs left out the hadith of Abdullah bin Zayd about the call to prayer and the dream with this chain for this very reason, namely that Abdullah bin Zayd died early; it is said that he was martyred at the Battle of Uhud or a short while after it. And Allah knows best.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan" by virtue of its other routes (like the previous two), but this chain is "weak".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Bashir bin Muhammad bin 'Abdullah is "majhul al-hal" (of unknown condition), and he also did not meet his grandfather 'Abdullah, as has passed at narration number (5538) and as the author indicated after it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi commented on al-Hakim's words in "al-Talkhis", saying: "So it is established that the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Hazm from him is 'maqtu'' (broken)." That is, the previous hadith with the author (al-Hakim).
Contradiction / Note: The author's statement about 'Abdullah bin Zayd that "he was martyred at Uhud…" contradicts his own statement made after the previous hadith number (5537), in his biography, that: "'Abdullah bin Zayd died at the end of the caliphate of 'Uthman."
